McCollum traveled to Marengo this morning for races while Billy Bezant and Earl King plan trips this week. McCollum praises Bezant as the only local horse to win money at the State Fair amid horse market chatter and a brief cigar ad plug.
City council meets with all aldermen present except Langworthy. Taxes and street lights dominate discussion. Reports on water, sidewalks, plumbing, and treasury are given. Election officials are named for each ward. A posting-bills complaint is noted. council adjourns.
Transfers list includes H and W Scofield to Anton Mehaleck and Mathias Thoman to Anton Mehaleck. Numerous parcels mention Theresa Schmidt James Metzgar Clancy and others with various acreages. Names appear with multiple parties including F W Roberts Lewis Jones and R A Brown.
Classical recital at Graham draws small Washington audience of about two hundred. soprano Madame Genevra Johnstone Bishop and pianist Miss Frances Wyman praised for artistry, though critics urge more popular selections. Program and future Moore’s exhibit promotion noted.
The jury found Charles J. Stevens guilty of attempting to break and enter after an eighteen hour deliberation. The verdict avoids burglary charges and leaves Stevens with possible sentencing next Thursday. Jaques & Jaques celebrate a perceived victory while motions for new trial or arrest of judgment loom.
Manager M E Rice presents a novel circus themed comedy on Saturday September 25 at the Opera House. The large company features Miss Ella Miller Miss Jeannette Lewis Miss Minnie Rice and other noted performers with refined costumes and stage scenery highlighting the circus sequence.
Babcock and Stewart shipped five loads of cattle to Chicago markets via the Rock Island Route with Mr. Stewart and H T Reynolds also sending cattle from Havre to Chicago at noon. Wells and McCulley sent three car loads over the B N W and one car load of blogs with Mr. Wells accompanying the shipment.
Havre resident Jerry Beckerman reported missing horses were found by Sheriff Teeter last evening. The animals were discovered near the Gordon home, south of the city, after straying from their pasture. Marshal Norton notes bums are scarce, reporting at most one seen per day during the past week.
