Kirk Peterson, an 11 year old sixth grader from Hamilton Montana, writes to Princess Grace of Monaco offering help amid Monaco France tensions. Grace responds thanking him for moral support and says no immediate action is needed but will advise if possible.
President Kennedy urged other nations to join in financing free world defense and foreign aid, touting the dollar as a strong reserve currency and pledging full convertibility into gold. He spoke to the IMF World Bank governors on the dollar's role and international economic stability.
President Kennedy said an in principle deal may head off a strike by unions against five missile firms. The accord follows talks with North American Aviation and the UAW and centers on a union shop vote, with General Dynamics and the IAM also agreeing. Boeing and Lockheed reportedly balk at the voting procedure.

Ainsworth producers join Iowa swine teams selected to provide 45 hogs for the Pan-American Live stock Exposition in Dallas next month. The hogs will depart Oct 1 and exhibit for about two weeks, after being chosen by the Iowa Swine Producers Association and breed groups. Texas officials had issued the challenge, with Iowa officials declining the risk, predicting Iowa hogs will outshine Texas entries.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 237 will attend a court of honor Monday at 6 30 pm in the church building. A pot luck dinner for Scouts and families starts at 6 30. War hawk district representatives will present a charter and a brief program will follow with a film about Pioneer camping at Lake Darling.

Henri Amouroux, editor of Sad-Ouest in Bordeaux, arrives in Washington September 20 to 24 as part of the Foreign Leader Exchange Program. He will meet clergymen, civic officials, teachers, and 4-H youth clubs to learn how a small midwestern town engages its young people.
The State Department of Public Instruction approved a $15,000 math and science program for the new senior high at Mid-Prairie with equipment and lab furniture. Federal matching funds will support each district dollar. Earlier, $38,000 had already been received for science and math programs in elementary schools and the junior high.
The House approved a compromise farm bill by 202-197 to institute Kennedy’s two price plan for wheat and to set permanent new controls on surpluses. The vote narrowed after a late switch by 13 Democrats and two Republicans, with Senate passage viewed as likely.
