Washington County road projects questioned by Iowa Highway Commission
Melvin Larsen of the Iowa Highway Commission told the board of supervisors that several Washington County highway projects were built on questionable legal grounds. He cited lack of inclusion in the county program or failure to invite public bidding for projects costing over 5 000 dollars. The commission approved changes to the county program but did not include the questionable projects. Larsen said future projects would follow procedures, though funding would remain an issue.

Mrs Mac M Davis of Fairfield 71 died Tuesday at Jefferson County Hospital. Born October 16 1879 in Libertyville she later lived in Washington County and graduated from Parsons College. Survived by husband a daughter Jane Pumroy Ottumwa a son George Birmingham and three grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 2 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home Fairfield burial Evergreen Cemetery.

Salary Control Law Declared Unconstitutional in Iowa
Des Moines UPI. Attorney General Evan Hultman issued a three page ruling that a 1961 act giving the Interim Committee power over certain Board of Control salaries is unconstitutional. The Board of Control retains the power to determine and fix salaries. The ruling ends a three month dispute over psychiatrists pay at state mental health institutions and rejects the $18,000 salary cap sought by the committee.

Stephen Glenn Woodruff 55 died Tuesday at University Hospital in Iowa City. He was a TV and radio repairman born near Columbus Junction November 1, 1905. He married Ruth Kelly in 1925 who died in 1959. He leaves eight sons, five daughters, 18 grandchildren, his mother, three brothers, and three sisters. Funeral arrangements are indefinite.
