Des Moines Sees Boost From New Convention Center Bond
UPI reports Des Moines promoters expect a $50 million annual economic boost if a $27.5 million bond including a convention center passes on Nov 5. Joe Anderson, head of the Des Moines Convention Bureau, says the city already gains convention business and the new center could position Des Moines among top national venues. Projections show last year’s $25 million economy from conventions. 1974 may exceed $30 million with the center adding about $20 million annually, possibly more.

Regents propose $493.7 million for state universities
The Iowa Board of Regents staff unveiled a proposed 493.7 million general operating budget for three state universities and two special schools for 1975-77. About 330.5 million would come from the legislature with 163 million from student fees and other income.

Prairie Flower School Building Put Up For Sale
The Joint County School System board voted Monday night to sell the Prairie Flower School building about ten miles northwest of Washington. The administration was instructed to advertise the sale and take the necessary legal steps. The building was formerly used as a learning center for mentally handicapped and slow learners, who have been integrated into the Washington system this year.

Pickup Driver Charged After Washington County Collision
At 11 28 p m Wednesday two vehicles collided on West Madison near Drug Fair entrance. Merlin Duane Hagie crossed the center line and hit Earl William Dickinson of route 2 Brighton head on. Hagie suffered head injuries, was charged with OVI. Ruth Dickinson treated for shock.

SEATS minibus usage rises in Washington county
Washington county residents are increasingly riding the federally funded SEATS minibus system. From February through July 266 memberships were sold, 13,943 miles were logged, and trips rose from 38 in late February to 480 in July. In July nearly half of trips went to banks stores and eateries.
