Trouble at Norfolk Battery Firing for President
In Norfolk Virginia on September 17 the Virginia volunteer artillery fired every half hour from before sunrise to sunset in honor of the dead president. The Portsmouth battery fired near Court and High streets in front of the Madison hotel and after windows shattered police arrested Captain Warner and the troops. The battery then moved to the waterfront where regular half hour guns continued through the day.
