In KEGKUK Iowa a former riher was detained after a conscience led to his surrender following a minor theft at a local dime store. Police reported the man admitted taking a small item valued at 25 cents and turned himself in.

Judge Charles Wylie says stalks must be lashed to a pole or slat and tie will break by stalk quality. Six contestants will pose for pictures to crown Miss Tall Corn of 1947 with one vote per stalk.
The Washington county grand jury, impaneled for the September term of district court, completed its work and adjourned until Monday morning. Judge Frank Beduly will receive the report and discharge the panel. Chicago wheat futures surged to new highs with September at 2.84 a bushel and December at 2.87 as Senator Flanders urged higher margins due to speculative rise. Hogs reached new records in Omaha and Chicago with good to choice butchers at 52 per hundred pounds and pork chops at 30.50 per hundred pounds. Egg futures jumped to 58.5 cents a dozen before closing lower. Prime steers rose to 35.50 per hundred weight, setting a yearly high.
