Iowa Corn Yield Cut By USDA Estimates
Iowa’s 1931 corn crop is pegged at 403,630,000 bushels per USDA on September 1, down 23,236,000 from August 1. Oats at 69 percent condition reduce the yield to 429 million. last year’s drought hit corn to 368 million versus 442 million five-year average. Barley at 73 percent yields about 0.5 million more than August estimate. Also notes Painted Desert length about 100 miles and width 15 to 40 miles.

Auto Plates for 1932 Here Today
A shipment of 7 650 pounds of automobile number plates was received at the courthouse to be placed on sale December first in the county treasurer’s office. The consignment includes 6 000 car numbers and 600 plates for county trucks. The county number will be 92, same as this year, with maroon backs and white numbers. Today’s temperature at two o’clock was 44 degrees.
