Tooth of mammoth found by Iowans
Des Moines based Iowa Historical Museum director Jack Musgrove identified a 17 pound right molar of a prehistoric adult mammoth found in a Raccoon River valley gravel pit. The tooth, donated by Roger A. Scott, is unbroken and unmatched in quality. The mammoth lived in Iowa about 8 000 to 10 000 years ago after the Ice Age.

Bus overturns on U S 63 near Bloomfield injures twelve
In Bloomfield area, a school bus overturned into a ditch seven miles north on U S 63. Twelve students and the driver suffered minor injuries. about 30 pupils were aboard. Driver Mary Ann Funk said brake failure caused the crash and she was treated for minor injuries.

Muskie urges budget rise to cut unemployment
