Washington county farmers may receive soil erosion work under a new project discussed by the board of supervisors. Q C Ayres and Henry Vollmer outlined terms, with Rev Carl W Klein in attendance. Funeral services were held today at Ames for Prof. Ben Helmick 45 a former Washington resident who died Wednesday in Hawarden Typhoid fever ended his illness burial followed at Ames He was born March 4 1889 southwest of Washington a son of W H and Martha Helmick He studied at Washington schools and the Iowa State College and did graduate work at Cornell later teaching there and in New Jersey He lived in Colorado for a time and is survived by his wife Jennie and three children Benjamin William Mary Allee and Jean They resided in Ames and he was a Presbyterian member

Four youths wearing overalls robbed Cumberland Savings Bank in Cumberland Iowa taking under 900 dollars. They forced cashier Cc. 8B. Shearer and assistant J. C. Stahl to lie down, fired a warning shot, and escaped with the two officials after releasing them three miles away.

A crowd of 100 or more, mainly Journal correspondents, ate large quantities of fried chicken at the annual contributors picnic at the country club. W S Mayo longtime Washington resident dies at 1 40 PM at his East Second Street home after a long illness. He is survived by his widow three sons one daughter and is father of Orla Mayo of the Mayo bakery. Funeral services set for two o clock Sunday at Sherman’s funeral home.
Rev. John L. Alexander from Garnett Kansas was installed as pastor of the Winfield United Presbyterian Church. Rev. D C Fulton presided, with duties by Rev A N Porter of Crawfordville and Rev Rainsdale of Columbus City. Mrs Fulton accompanied the new pastor. Next week Keokuk presbytery meets at La Claire Prairie with Rev Fulton and Hervey Finney.
