No Understanding at Paris Parley
U.S. Ambassador Harriman said he tried to explain the American election campaign to the North Vietnam delegation in Paris but noted it is impossible for a controlled society to understand it. He said Hanoi’s statements about opposition to the war were not entirely true and that both parties seek a peaceful, honorable outcome. He argued free speech exists only in the United States and criticized renewed Communist attacks in South Vietnam for achieving nothing but misery.
