Notorious Bonaparte horse thief N. E. Bettett named

Police warn the public about N. E. Bettett a horse thief and swindler last active in Bonaparte Iowa. He uses fake farm purchases and bogus Chicago bank checks. Described as about forty, tall with stooped shoulders and mixed gray hair, a smooth talker with a sore right eye. He stole a bay harness horse and buggy in Bonaparte, a light bay horse with white hind foot, spavin on the left hind leg, shack top buggy. Known as a hard drinker who avoids the town's business district.

Fair week preparations brighten county grounds and track

A large force is widening the track and fixing the grounds for fair week. If the weather holds, the fair will be the best in years. Senator Gear travels on No 15 to Brighton for today’s speech after speaking at Wilton Junction yesterday. Local politicians expect to attend.

Presbyterian Excursion to Clop pock a Great Success

A Presbyter ian group enjoyed a fine day at the fashionable summer resort Clop pock with five coaches carrying the crowd. The Jolly Troubadors provided music for the outing and the trip was described as financially and otherwise successful.

Local notes describe a noon B & N W train trip to see Lucy B trot with return planned for seven. A bum with a mileage book and traveling man’s grip was detained by Sheriff Teeter, awaiting owner contact as the county jail holds them.
