Mrs Bessie Mae Stafford 46 wife of Jack Stafford died at 5 45 this morning at the Stafford home on South Seventh avenue The death was sudden and unexpected Funeral services will be held at two oclock Thursday afternoon at the L A Jones funeral home She was born in 1901 in Washington county daughter of David and Rose Edwards Riley She married Jack Stafford in 1942 at Iowa City Survived by her husband her mother Mrs David Riley of Brighton one sister Mrs Charles Fish of Washington and one brother Fred Riley of Brighton

Hurt in auto crash near town injures two men
Two men received slight injuries in a Sunday automobile crash on a country road southwest of town. Lloyd Wilson of Brighton lost control on loose gravel, the car pitched. Wayne Arnold of Washington, the passenger, suffered a knee gash. Arnold owned the car, which sustained about 225 dollars in damage.

Arbitration Board Awards 15 Cents an Hour to Non-Operating Railroad Workers
A government arbitration board in Chicago ruled a 15 percent hourly raise for non-operating railroad employees, effective Sept 1 1947 with no back pay. The panel's decision was final though two railroad reps dissented. The cost is projected at about 438 million dollars annually including a 5% payroll tax.
