White to Direct Methodist Choir In Washington
Boyd White, head of vocal music at Washington high school and junior college, becomes director of the Washington Methodist Church choir and will lead services Sunday morning marking his first time conducting there. He arrives from Bussey where he taught music and social sciences for two years and hails from Afton. White is Simpson College alumnus with a BA and has pursued graduate work at the University of Iowa. His wife Lola Coppock White will sing in the choir.

Obituary: Emma Mayer Dies in Washington Rest Home
Emma Mayer, about 76, died at eight this morning at the Washington Rest Home where she had lived ten days. Her body goes to Sherman’s funeral home while funeral plans await her daughter Mrs. Earl Little’s return from Des Moines. She attended Simpson College and belonged to Beta Sigma Omicron and Mu Phi Epsilon. Mr. and Mrs. White reside at 110 East Monroe Street.

Dale Leroy Draper of Grundy Center and Sandra Jolayna Benson of Des Moines were judged the healthiest babies in Iowa. The 2 1/2 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Draper scored 99.08 for the boys while 22 month old Sandra Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T Benson, scored 99.25 for the girls in Des Moines.

Stores to Close Monday for Labor Day Observance
The Chamber of Commerce announces Memorial Day style closures for Labor Day. Most retail shops will shut, food stores until noon, poultry houses until ten, druggists from noon to four, and restaurants on holiday hours.
