Guilty Man Is Dead In Cell After Murder Inquiry
Thomas Bechtel, held in a murder investigation of his sister Mabel Bechtel, killed himself in his Central Police Station cell by slitting his throat with a knife. Alfred Reekstein, engaged to Bechtel’s girlfriend, heard Bechtel’s final words wishing both would die together. Bechtel died before aid could reach him and the knife was found beside him. A funeral for Mabel Bechtel followed at the family home as neighbors and mill workers gathered for the private service.
