DECA Dance Delays Change as Weekend Event Moves

Iowa counties push home rule bill in 1976 legislature

Iowa Association of Counties urged passage of a charter home rule bill for county governments in Des Moines. Do nald L. Cleveland said the measure, a top priority for 1976, would be refined this session as counties seek local control over land use and budgeting while opposing new commissions and a property tax freeze. The group called for review of tax equalization orders, funding flexibility, higher district court costs, and social services funding to meet rising needs. Rep. Hargrave urged considering broader county operation impacts on people, not just efficiency.

Flaws Found in Food Stamp Handling Across States

A Treasury study shows Iowa and national levels of food stamp errors involve overissuance and underpayment. In Iowa 26.6 percent received too many stamps and 14.8 percent were ineligible. Students named to All-State Chorus and Orchestra

Four Washington High School students, Allen Kron Janis Loder Joe Morotti and Mary Ellen Reed, plus Danny Hanze of Swedesburg and Linda Bush of Washington, were named to All-State ensembles. Lintz gets six months jail for drug possession

District Court Judge Ira F. Morrison sentenced Dean M. Lintz of Washington to six months in county jail for possessing a controlled substance and placed him on one year probation after suspending another six month term for a second drug possession count. Faced with guilty pleas on Oct. 6, the prosecutor dropped charges of stolen property and drug delivery.

Ambulance Crew Praised for Saving Local Man

Edward A. Conner of 1202 E Main St is resting comfortably at Washington County Hospital after a cardiac arrest Tuesday evening. Attending physician Dr G J Nemmers and County Ambulance Service personnel, Karl Jones and Ralph Miller, arrived within three minutes, performed CPR, and used a defibrillator to restore a normal heartbeat before he was rushed to ICU where his condition remains stable. Dr CS Tam commended the ambulance team and hospital staff for their quick, coordinated response.
