Potosi mine turns into a Nevada ghost town story

In 1855 Mormon pioneers found lead near Las Vegas and named the mine Potosi. Water shortages forced ore to Las Vegas for smelting, sparking a fleeting boom and a burro caravan era that left a ghost town by 1957 after colonists returned to Salt Lake City. Prospects revived with zinc and silver during World War I, but profits dwindled and the site faded again into ghost status.
