Sergeant D F Henehan of the Des Moines army recruiting station is in Washington today and tomorrow at the post office to enlist men for the peacetime army. Applicants aged 17 to 21 may choose service in the United States or seven overseas theaters. Discharged men can re enlist in their former rank until Nov 20. Recruiters plan to visit each Monday and Tuesday for months, with headquarters at the post office.

Seventeen new members were initiated into the Washington council of the Knights of Columbus at a ceremonial Sunday at the K of C hall. About 150 members attended from Washington Harper Muscatine and Town City with Everette Swift presiding. Initiations were followed by a cooperative dinner as the degree team from Harper led first and second degrees and Gus Pusateri of Town City oversaw the third. State Secretary Ray Conley of Des Moines was present.

Two cars collide at Riverside junction injuring driver
Saturday evening two cars crashed near the junction of highways 218 south and 22 east of Riverside. Paul B. Jackson of Bowen Illinois drove the 218 car and Clarence C. Lown of Wellman drove the other who had just traveled east on v2 and was turning north on 218. Both right sides were badly damaged with about 400 dollars in repairs. Mrs. Lown sustained minor injuries.

Farm in Anderson Family Changes Ownership After 105 Years
George Sojka buys the Anderson family farm five and a half miles southeast of town. Charles G. Anderson announces the sale of 128 acres, including 53 acres of the original homestead, noting purchase from the government by Balem Anderson in 1846 and passing through Levi and C. G. Anderson.
