In Bangkok about 100000 well wishers greet Apollo 11 crew led by Neil Armstrong during a motorcade through tropical heat. Armstrong calls the reception the friendliest of their world tour as Buzz Aldrin Michael Collins and families wave from the route.
An agreement in principle links Swanson Stores of Cherokee with Hy-Vee Foods of Chariton. Swanson runs 12 stores in northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota. Hy-Vee operates 65 Iowa and Missouri supermarkets and one drug store. The merger awaits agency and shareholder approval with an effective date retroactive to Sept 30, and Swanson stores will become a Hy-Vee division while retaining management and staff.
An intercepted memo from Washington notes that congressmen need not fear the draft, suggesting a political stance on military conscription and exemptions while addressing the public sentiment on conscription and governance.

The plan’s fate depends on legislative action and public respect for law.
City plan commission and officials discussed the present water system and the need for future improvements. Mentioned were a 12 inch main, a new water tower near Green Field, and the 4 inch main near McCleery co plant. The Arter Equipment Co. building in Seymour Iowa was destroyed by fire early today. Firefighters prevented flames from reaching nearby diesel tanks. Volunteer firefighter Floyd Hiatt was injured when the front wall collapsed, listed in fair condition with a dislocated shoulder and fractured knee. Three tractors inside were destroyed. State fire marshal investigates. first responders noted signs of forced entry.
President Tito returned to quake wreckage in Banja Luka, a city about 200 miles west of Belgrade, observing widespread ruin. Officials said 20 bodies were pulled from rubble or died in hospitals. 690 injured, 69 seriously. Normal electricity and water were expected to resume soon amid dry but cold weather.
