Des Moines a bitter clash between defense attorney J Riley McManus and District Court Judge Edwin Moore marked the windup of the second week of the Ronald M Stump murder trial McManus challenged the court while Moore reprimanded him for conduct and improper attempts to introduce stricken testimony as the case nears the potential death penalty for the Keokuk youth Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa.

M Guy Huston died Friday at his son Max’s home near Winfield at age 70. Services set for Monday at 2 pm at Winfield Methodist Church with Rev David F Barker officiating. Burial in Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. He was born February 26, 1891 in Louisa County. Survivors include son Max, brothers Paul and Marion, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Memorial fund for Winfield Methodist Church established.

Chestney J. McKenzie 53 died at home in Kalona after a heart attack. He was born January 1908 in Harlan, served in World War II, and worked for 8S and J Poultry in West Branch. Survived by his widow Vera Strickler, his father Charles of Harlan, and two brothers Floyd of Atlantic and Clarence in the U.S. Army in Italy. Funeral arrangements are pending at Peterseim Funeral Home.
