President William McKinley witnessed the three hour Peace Jubilee parade in Philadelphia along a seven mile route. Thousands of troops and sailors, including Hobson’s crew, impressed the crowd as McKinley and Mrs. McKinley observed from the reviewing stand and Bellevue carriage.
In St. Joseph Missouri five boys Herbert Donovan Alonzo Arteburn Charles Cook James Hathaway and William Hathaway were jailed for ten years for robbing a Burlington passenger train near St Joseph on August 11. Officials accepted a minimum fine due to their youth. The safe was thrown from the train but no loot was recovered. Hathaway confessed next day and all were arrested.
Paris dispatch notes Perfect of Police and M Dupuy shaping a new cabinet amid Dreyfus revision talk. Reports say Dupuy may form a unity cabinet with De Freycenet Bourges and others as tensions over the Court of Cassation decision rise.
Generals and sailors led by General Joe Wheeler rode to the presidential stand with Hobson and the Merrimac crew receiving the loudest ovation. The Twenty first Infantry and the Fighting Musicians drew praise while the colored Tenth Cavalry was dismounted and saluted. Ships’ crews from Texas to Massachusetts marched, as Grand Army veterans followed, with Harry L. Mac Neal among those in carriages.
A coroner's jury in Virden returned verdicts stating nine riot victims died from gunshot wounds inflicted by parties unknown. The grand jury will convene November 9 to investigate riot causes. The report omits any censures or recommendations.

Captain W A Chadwick of Company D Second Illinois Infantry, stationed at Jacksonville Fla, died in Chattanooga after a fever illness worsened during transport toward home. He grew suddenly worse before reaching the city and died in the ambulance en route to the hospital.
