Washington Band Holds Oyster Supper and Meeting

Washington Band conducted a business meeting at City Hall with about twenty five members present. Springman, president, led the session that reviewed the year’s work and the group then held an oyster supper at Minick’s. Mrs N C Bohr of Keota wed here yesterday.

Capone Delayed to Leavenworth. Bail Denied by Chicago Court

Capone remains in county jail after a circuit court of appeals denied bail and delayed transfer to Leavenworth. The court ruled Capone should await the outcome of a potential appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court on the tax evasion conviction, which carries 11 years and a $50,000 fine. Justice Alschuler Sparks Evans issued the order at 2 p.m., with 15 days given to file any appeal.

France to Buy U S Wheat as Gold Flows to Paris

Paris reports a Franco American wheat deal and a wave of gold shipments. France plans to purchase at least 20,000,000 bushels of U S farm board wheat with duty free entry while Central Europe negotiates cotton credits. Sixteen Pastors Attend County Ministerial Meeting at Y M C A

Sixteen ministers gathered at the Washington county Ministerial Association meeting in the Y M C A to study Religious Education. Rev R W Merrifield of Muscatine was guest and invited the association to met in Muscatine on November 2. Eastwood discussed Richardson's The Christ of the Class Room while summer study at the Presbyterian Seminary. Gordon spoke on The Church and Adult Education and Allison addressed The Organization and Administration of Religious Education. Matthews led devotion. Keoty chaired and opened discussion. The room featured autumn decor and hosts.

Supreme Court grants Mrs. Miner a new trial

Des Moines reports the Iowa Supreme Court reversed a Jones County murder conviction of Mrs. Tilda Miner and remanded for a new trial. Justice Stevens, Evans and DeGrath dissented. Miner was sentenced to life in Rockwell City's women's reformatory. Alfred Hartwig was acquitted.

Mrs Henry Macon won a radio contest. Funeral services for Mrs dH were held yesterday conducted by Rev F C Witzigman of the Methodist church with a vocal solo by Mrs J H Lattimore. Casket bearers included J K Gardner and others. Burial was in Elm Grove. Lillian Hoffman of Keota served as secretary to Gov Rolph and departed for San Francisco for signature while governor was hospitalized.

Washington High Prepares for State Cross Country Meet

Fim Shultz leads Washington high school as they plan to enter the state cross-country contest at Town City next Saturday. Twenty or more schools are expected. Washington placed fifth last Saturday in Muscatine among eleven teams. Ottumwa won with Mu second and Hesseltine third. Minden limped with a weak ankle. Helwick, a top runner, is with a cavalry troop at Burlington and unable to run.

Mrs Winnie Palmer chairman reports eight county schools enrolled in the Junior Red Cross. Funds from last year funded clothing for a tornado district child. A popular appeal runs among rural children as Mrs Palmer hopes for 100 percent school membership.

Extradition papers for the return of Mrs. Winnie Ruth Judd from Los Angeles to Phoenix Arizona were approved today by Francis Cochran executive in Sacramento California. The action follows a request from Arizona authorities detailing the murder case and the need for the suspect to face trial.

Riverside Man Shot Taken to Hospital

Riverside, Ort. 27 Russell Yedlick was rushed to a hospital in Iowa City after a chest wound Sunday at the home of his wife's father Scott Stover, near here. He says the shooting occurred accidentally as he removed a gun from a woman attending a district meeting of the Alfred Mutual Automobile Association in Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon and school of instruction were planned.

Iowa Guards to Withdraw 1100 from Cattle War Zone
