Teamsters oust 11 trustees from pension fund overhaul

The Teamsters Central States pension fund fires eleven trustees amid a government led probe into mismanagement of a 1.4 billion fund. The restructuring cuts the board from 16 to 10 and aligns appointments evenly between unions and employers. Affected include Frank Fitzsimmons, with several others resigning or remaining under new terms. Investigators cite possible violations of federal pension law and refer some evidence to the Justice Department. The shift follows Labor Department pressure and an October 11 meeting in California led by executive director Daniel J. Shannon. Workforce contributions run from nine to twenty five dollars weekly per employee, funding real estate and securities investments and monthly payouts totaling millions.
