Pella man dies in gunfight with deputy sheriff
In Pella Iowa autopsy planned for Lloyd Winkleman 59 after he wounded Marion County Deputy Sheriff Harold Gates in a gunfight at Winkleman home Gates sustained internal injuries and remained in very serious condition. Winkleman and Gates exchanged fire from inside a garage area then Winkleman died from a self inflicted shotgun wound while police found multiple firearms in the home. Authorities believe family problems sparked the incident.
