A Muscatine Mississippi river dam project will start within weeks as part of about twenty similar works to improve river navigation. Construction will keep Muscatine workers busy for several months.
Dorothy Ketchem 21 of Marengo Iowa died Tuesday in a Chicago hospital three days after police found her wandering dazed on a south side street. Authorities believed she was a victim of mental illness.
Bernard Roloff cites Henry Krause an Iowa farmer who tracked his wife’s hat from the skyride using a telescope. He said he could recognize the hat from a mile away though not her features, after becoming separated at the fair.
Des Moines entrepreneurs Ray Kauffman and Jerry Mefford announce a round the world voyage aboard a 40 foot schooner starting November 1 from Des Moines with an extra hand. They aim to depart Tampa, Florida on February 1 after outfitting, planning to raise funds via photographs and etchings.
In Muscatine the NRA Board announced that precision home carding of fresh water pearl buttons, previously banned, will be allowed. The decision ends a nearly year long dispute after NRA officials sought private home caning cessation. Manufacturers argued home work provides income for workers unable to leave.
Iowa City expects about 50 000 fans for the University of Iowa versus Minnesota homecoming game. More than 40 000 tickets sold and 2 200 remain at the fieldhouse office. A fresh block of tickets was sent to Minneapolis, boosting Gopher sales to about 50 000.
The Iowa State Motor Tax Reduction league begins a drive in Pottawattamie County to collect signatures for a petition asking 40 to 64 percent cuts in automobile license fees. The campaign targets 200,000 town residents to present to the state legislature.

Veterans of Foreign Wars outline Armistice day events in Central park with a bell saluting 21 bombs and a church program around 11 05. Post Commander Nelswanger names Burham to fire the bombs and Jesse Radda to run the Central park program. Dinner and social activities follow the meeting.
Wellsville Ohio police maintain tight guard over Adam Richetti in a jail cell after a raid on a hiding camp. He and gang ally Pretty Boy Floyd were wanted for participating in the Kansas City railroad station massacre of June 17, 1933. Floyd was killed by officers during the incident.
J A Taylor’s speech class at the high school presents three one act plays tomorrow evening with no reserved seats. Admission is 15 cents for the general public and student activity tickets may be required. The program starts promptly at o'clock with The Ghost Story announced by Bether Smith and cast including George Gene Tuck, Altitia-ewenty Wilson, Mary Maurine Walker, Grace Merne Crozier, Lennie Caroling Sampson, Tom 22-2, Louis Thornton, Floyd, Junior Redlinger, Lynn Charles Thompson, Fred George Fates, Housemaid Helen Pinney, and The Lords Prayer announced by Lois Sampson with Harriet Joy Zolowa, Betty Haven, Mad Rose Audrey Peet, Max Allen Seques, Charles Bear, Adrian Moore. Cast for Light includes Willis Barker Don Pavis, Judy Virginia Breitenbach, Dr. Brooks Robert Barclay Johnson, Cav y Petters, Mrs O Connor Naomi Simpson. Virgil Scearcy of Rubio pleaded guilty to larceny of a lover seed from Cy Dickinson. He faced a possible harsher sentence but received a $10 fine and costs after a brief hearing before Justice J B Bovee. A supervising tone noted his first offense and good local reputation.
Washington Chamber official reveals petitions signed by 251 residents calling for a star mail route to Mr Pleasant. Petitions to be filed with Congressman Richer to push postal authorities. Wayland and Noble counties show strong local support with 165 signatures, while Crawfordsville lists 2000 signees. The drive responds to the loss of two trains on the Washington Burlington line. If approved, delivery would run north in the morning and south in the late afternoon, possibly two round trips on Sundays.
A New York to Chicago bus overturned near Indiana Pennsylvania four times and plunged into a stream. At least two people were killed and seven injured, with victims taken to local hospitals. Names of the dead include a middle aged woman and an aged man.

Paul Gorham resigns as sales manager of HW A Baking Co to accept a position with the Newton News. He will oversee national advertising and supervise local work for the Newton paper. Gorham has long been active in journalism and will relocate to Newton after a period inWashington.
The University of Minnesota meat judging team won honors at the American Royal live stock exposition in Kansas City. Iowa State College team took second place, repeating last year's first place.
Helen Alcorn from the University of Iowa visited yesterday with several sorority sisters, showing up in the afternoon for a campus or social gathering.
Chairman H G Richardson announced Walter Schroeder will tour all county towns to audit pension applications. Ferguson plans to visit towns as work continues. The board will hire another investigator if funds source is clarified, and no pay has been issued to date. Only about 50 of 408 applications have been completed.
The November term of district court is delayed two days and will begin Wednesday, November 7, instead of Monday, November 5. Judge Frank Reechly of Montezuma will preside. The grand jury was impaneled on Thursday, November 8 instead of Tuesday, the 6th, due largely to Election Day.
An American Legion sub committee adopted a resolution urging immediate payment of soldiers' bonuses at face value and cancelation of interest. The convention voted to hold its 1925 gathering in St Louis and set plans for a universal draft before the next Congress to curb profits from war.
Flemington New Jersey October 24 Judge Thomas Trenchard scheduled Bruno Hauptmann to go on trial January 2 for the Lindbergh baby kidnapping murder. Defense attorney James Fawcett had requested time to respond to the appeal. The infant was kidnapped from the Lindbergh home in Hopewell New Jersey on March 1, 1932.
Washington state rainfall reached about of an inch with scattered showers statewide. Des Moines reported cooler western Iowa and warmer eastern areas with a 75 degree high in Des Moines and a 42 degree low. A frost is needed to hasten corn drying, but drought has left some counties with little to husk. Winter crops benefit from recent rains and pastures show revival.
