Geo Stiles dies in Havre this morning prompting sorrowful notices from the community. Details are limited as officials confirm the passing and extend condolences to family and friends.
A Rock Island excursion train carrying 462 voters for McKinley arrived in Washington on its route to Canton Ohio. The group wore yellow badges and banners praising McKinley and sound money. The stop featured a brass band and glee club and a lively reception amid broad support along the rails.
At the Narrow Orange depot a woman about fifty and her daughter, a twenty year old, waited for the passenger train. They were poorly dressed and argued with a kind railway man who offered a ride to Winfield. The pair argued and a reporter was threatened during contact before they left for Rock Island as they claimed to walk to Winfield.
One of the largest and most pleas socials yet held was given last evening by the Epworth League at the N Shaw home to its members and friends. About sixty were present with solos recitations and a cent piece mystery contest. Refreshments of lemon ice and cake concluded a successful gathering.
A pleasant social hosted yesterday by the Christian Union in the First church parlors. The program featured singing by Etta Maxwell and Carrie Hamilton, a comic declamation by Cloyce Beard, talks by Ella Dawson and James Baird, a comic piece by Ola Hamilton, and a toast on How to Train a Husband by Mrs D H Logan. The event concluded as one of their best socials in some time.
This morning at the grocery Dr. J. Eichelberger added sawdust to a burning fire. The sawdust formed gas and exploded when the stove door was open. Eichelberger suffered a bad burn on the left hand and singed hair and whiskers but remained on duty.
The superintendent urges all patrons who have not settled their water bills to visit the water works office and pay before the first of the month. Strict compliance with the rules is required.
Tonight marks the final performance of the comedy Our Boarding School at The Graham. The production promises a packed house with sharp humor and new specialties.
Henry Eicher and his wife with daughters Hannah and Lydia, along with Mrs Leigh Wallace, came home this morning from a week in Keokuk where Eicher aided in prosecuting cases in Judge Wooalson’s court.
