Harold Eugene Johnson, 36, faces murder and assault with intent to murder charges after a Sioux City shooting killed Nancy Nielsen, 16, and wounded her sister Michaelene, 19. Johnson and Roger D. Harnack, 21, were arrested. Harnack charged with arson and burglary in a related bombing. Nancy Nielsen died at St Joseph Mercy Hospital from massive internal bleeding. Michaelene underwent surgery for a bullet wound and was in good condition.
The Joint County School System received State Equalization warrants for 25 districts in Cedar, Johnson, Linn, and Washington counties. Amounts total roughly 25 percent of last year’s aid and are to be distributed promptly to meet district needs. final adjustments will follow enrollment data at year end.
