A collapsing coal waste avalanche from Aberfan village mountainside crushed Pantglas Infants School in Merthyr Tydfil area. Viet Cong Mine Kills Nine in Mekong Delta Market
In the Mekong Delta village Tra on 75 miles southwest of Saigon a Viet Cong mine exploded in a crowded market killing nine and injuring hundreds 48 seriously. Four soldiers and five civilians including four children died with 15 soldiers among the seriously wounded. The attack followed fighting in the area as government forces clashed with communist units and a U S sweep began in the Central Highlands to locate infiltrators.
