Two armed ex-convicts robbed a Drive-In Cafe in Jewell Iowa at about 4 a.m. taking $75 to $100 from the cash register and $75 from a wallet. After wrecking their car they fled to a farm, held a couple hostage briefly, and were captured in a cornfield nearby with no charges filed immediately.

A court-appointed guardian seeks to void the marriage of Carol Hoover Arlington, 14, of Iowa, to Ernest Arlington, 68, a Columbus Junction farmer. Forest City Iowa report says a gasoline transport truck leaving a county road flipped and burned. R C Krueger of Waseka Minnesota was found dead in the cab as authorities suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The Gayle Johnson owned vehicle and Midland Co operative Oil Co trailer were destroyed. The accident occurred three miles south and one mile west of Forest City.
