In Little Rock, over 400 white high school students began registering for private segregated schools opened by the Little Rock Private School Corp and Ouachita Baptist College. Classes for white seniors start Tuesday in a former University of Arkansas graduate school building, with about 150 registered. 250 more registered at Second Baptist Church.

Tama Station Robbed of $750 Early Today
A tall armed bandit robbed the Colonial service station in Tama Iowa and escaped with about $750 and some credit cards after briefly abducting attendant Harold Winders. The gunman used a 32 caliber revolver and a road map to cover his face and drove Winders roughly six miles into the countryside.

Jerry Lee Phillips 18 of Ottumwa who escaped from Wapello County Jail Saturday night was recaptured Sunday hiding in bushes in South Ottumwa. He had been sentenced Friday to 10 years in the Anamosa Men’s Reformatory on forgery charges.

Scouts Enjoy Gold Rush Camporee Weekend
