Jaques married Miss Marvin of Fayette, swindled her mother out of property funds and deserted her in Portland while pregnant. Jaques claimed a Washington state wife. In Okaloosa a miner W H Smith of Beacon Iowa was killed by slate in the Garfield mine aged about 35 leaving a large family.
