Fear Over 50 Dead as Ferry Capsizes
A ferry carrying over 80 oil plant workers collided with the tanker Frosta in predawn darkness on the Mississippi River at Destrehan Louisiana. Nine bodies were recovered and about 50 missing are presumed dead. The George Prince sank quickly after being struck broadside by the 664 foot vessel. Coast Guard divers searched the submerged cabins while witnesses reported the ferry was heavily loaded. two dozen survivors were rescued.
