In Keota two ladies seen over the years were photographed in reverse order Saturday. Mrs Mary Sonday near 100 on the left and Mrs Minnie Besser 99 on the right were misidentified in the Journal and the editors apologized.
The International Labor Organization won the 1969 Nobel Peace Prize worth 375,000 Swedish Kroner. The award was announced by the Nobel Committee in Oslo with no reasons given, and a Dec 10 ceremony at the University of Oslo was planned for ILO's representative to receive the prize from Swedish Parliament member Aase Liones.
Washington County investments under Treasurer Wally Fagen and the board yielded 10 718 76 in 1968 with a year end balance of 562 670 36. Through 1969 interest to date is 9 003 47 and projected year total 12 128 47 as management outpaced prior 1967 results. Labor Day noted by federal Act of Congress.
Knoxville Iowa. The kitchen area of the La Petite Cafe was gutted by fire today with smoke damaging the rest of the building. Owner Frank Swayne said he started the grill this morning and left briefly, returning to find the blaze.

The Senate Finance Committee drafted a more liberal tax reform to help full-time farmers claim losses against non farm income. It would allow deducting one half of farm losses over 25 000 from non farm income over 50 000, if not operated for profit. A prior House rule denying losses from non profit ventures remains debated. The panel dropped a key coopera tives provision and ordered a study of taxing farm cooperatives with unrelated side businesses.
The United Nations Command requests a Korean Military Armistice Commission session for Tuesday to protest a North Korean ambush that killed four Americans. The attack occurred on a U N corridor inside the DMZ as a U S Army truck with a white flag and police sign was fired upon by infiltrators.
A historic Czechoslovak delegation arrives in Moscow to sign a basic document on Soviet Czechoslovak relations. Prague hopes the pact may set a timetable for withdrawal of Soviet troops and review events since 1968 Prague Spring. Moscow greets leaders warmly as crowds cheer along the route to the Kremlin.
United Press International reports generally fair weather in Iowa with cooler tonight values around 30 to 40s, highs in the 60s on Tuesday, and a Wednesday outlook for mostly fair and slightly warmer conditions.
