Terrible railroad wreck claims twenty lives this afternoon

A blast of tragedy: a major railroad wreck today resulted in twenty fatalities with extensive damage reported. Officials investigate the crash site as survivors recount the perilous moments and authorities advise caution around the area.

Frye Assails War Hospitals as Deficient in Camp Thomas

Dr. Frye of the Third division hospital testified at Jacksonville that hospital methods are improper and contract physicians and hospital corps are often incompetent. He described Montauk Point conditions as poorly prepared with many sick men, and accused reporters of bias. Other officers disputed shortages in commissary supplies and noted water and sink issues at Camp Thomas.

Labor investigation begins as Kyle presides at sessions

Outrage Tortures Two Iowa Farmers in Home Invasion

In Cascade County Dubuque area Bartley Murphy 76 and Thomas Murphy and Thomas’s nephew John were bound to a bedpost and burned on the feet during a Sunday home invasion by two masked gunmen. They fled without revealing treasure after threats. The incident followed a similar attack last year. The story also notes the arrival of the German emperor and empress in Constantinople on Tuesday.
