A N French Marshalltown’s oldest resident who reached his 100th birthday last January has died. He came to Marshalltown in 1869, served in the Civil War, and later held Marshall County auditor for fourteen years. He once joked about an insurance policy decision denying him coverage for being a poor risk.
Des Moines district judge weighed restoring the home of Civil War widow Hattie Varnocum after it was sold for 72.51 in delinquent taxes. Her daughter testified she routinely claimed a 2000 tax exemption but failed to file in time in 1933 due to illness.

Brief funeral services for Andrew Martin Wilson were held at the L. A. Jones funeral home. Wilson, 76, died yesterday afternoon and will be buried in Cherokee Iowa after services at the Methodist church. He was born August 28 1862 in Johnson county Iowa and moved to Cherokee in 1880. A Legion session followed last night’s events with a dance and a coffee and sandwiches program.
