Keokuk man Harry Reid filed a district court suit against Day & Zimmerman, operators of the Iowa Ordnance plant at Burlington, for 7587.50 overtime pay. He claims 920 hours at 1.25 as a checker and 5150 hours as storekeeper covering 1941 to 1944 under the fair labor standards act.
Margaret Tarr, daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Tarr of Oskaloosa, was fatally injured when struck by a car driven by J C Ellis of Oskaloosa. Police report say she ran from between parked cars into the Ellis vehicle traveling about 20 miles per hour.
DES MOINES Republican National Chairman Herbert Brownell Jr will meet with Republican state chairmen from 13 states Friday and Saturday. They will discuss plans for the 1946 congressional campaign.
Central College at Pella begins homecoming with a freshmen pull at VerMeer pool followed by a bonfire pep meeting and queen coronation. A play is slated for Friday night, and Saturday features a parade through the business district with floats from classes and campus organizations.
In Mason City two former air force captains allege racial discrimination by the Elks lodge after a gambling raid. The lodge was fined 500 dollars for illegal slot machine possession. Izzy Tamres and Morris Traub say they were the only two of eight applicants rejected on October 11 with Tamres nominated by his father Larry Tamres 15 years earlier.
Des Moines Iowa parents will receive photostatic copies of their newborn children birth certificates from now on. Loren BE Chancellor state vital statistics director said notification of birth registration is being discontinued. About 4000 children are born in this state each month. The physician sends the certificate of birth to state vital statistics. It is this record that will be photographed and sent to the parents. They may keep the photostat if they desire.
Decorah city officials were assured by U S War Department engineers the Dry Run flood control project would begin early next year. The plan includes tunneling a hill to divert flood water into the Upper Iowa river and building dikes to protect homes and property. Decorah has two weeks to obtain land options. Estimated cost is 700000 dollars.
A large enforcement effort in Des Moines targets several high profile tax dodgers believed to owe the federal government more than 500000 dollars in income taxes. Four cases are pending with amounts ranging from 71000 to 120000 dollars each, with many more smaller claims under review.

A United States army recruiting branch office has opened in the Washington post office. Army men will interview prospective soldiers Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the internal revenue office. Major Ray Bruch and Lt Joseph Brandmeyer of Davenport command the Davenport headquarters. Applicants aged 17 to 34 are accepted, with those over 34 having prior military service. Those age 17 must bring parental consent and birth certificate.
President Truman disclosed that he urged Prime Minister Attlee to admit 106,009 Jews to Palestine. Attlee did not agree to that number, and Truman said the Palestine issue remains under consideration with no recent exchange of letters disclosed.

A. L. Anderson of the Animal Husbandry Department resumes teaching and research at Iowa State College Ames after two and a half years in the armed forces. He served as nutrition officer with the 4th Service Command in Atlanta holding the rank of Major. Anderson is a University of Minnesota graduate.
The Senate Finance Committee approved measures to relieve about 12 million individuals from federal income taxes next year. The panel also voted to repeal the excess profits tax on corporations, saving roughly 2.56 billion dollars for 1946.
