About 2 500 rounds of ammunition were reported stolen from a boxcar at the Rock Island freight depot. Thieves broke the seal and took shotgun shells and rifle cartridges. Illinois Central officials later said three boxcars were broken into with only three shirts taken.
A Liscomb school teacher Miss Eva Fuller aged 23 died in a collision on Highway 30 four miles east of Ames. Three fellow teachers from Liscomb were injured and three Ames men in the second car were involved. Fuller was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Fuller of near Hampton and left a brother.
Cedar Rapids real estate dealers closed their 23rd annual meeting with resolutions urging the board to adopt the committee report. The plan would require a year's apprenticeship for real estate salesmen in brokers' offices before licensing and seek statewide use of licensed brokers by all Iowa government agencies for sales and appraisals.
Des Moines reports the government will move nearly three million bushels of surplus corn from central and western Iowa to government owned steel bins in eastern Iowa. William McArthur heads the Commodity Credit Corp grain division and announced plans for the transfer. Rev Charles Hillis 71 died at Washington county hospital after a heart attack. Funeral services set for Wellman Baptist church at 1 30 pm and Kalona Baptist church at 2 45 pm with burial in Tiskilwa Illinois. He and wife Ada Hillis led Wellman and Kalona churches and moved from Ottumwa six years ago. He was popular in Kalona and Wellman communities and church and civic groups mourn his loss.
Lewis Henry Kerr died at 1 15 p m at the home of his daughter Mrs Will Sickles 222 East Fifth street where he had lived for some time after retiring from farming thirty years ago He was born April 20 1859 in Jefferson county Iowa and spent most of his life in Henry and Washington counties Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 30 a m at L A Jones chapel conducted by Rev Alfred Trenerry with burial in Elm Grove cemetery He is survived by his daughter Mrs Sickles a son Howard Kerr of Washington seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
