Philip B. Conklin allegedly murdered his wife by suffocation during a September attack and then tried to claim she burned herself. A grand jury convened after witness testimony, including Mrs. Davis, who described Conklin’s statements about the strangling and lamp theft.

At Robt Andersons home in West Washington last night a Xtortion social raised funds with fines for early or late arrivals and for escorting a dame home. Eight young women impersonated the Knoxville Glee Club singing with lively response as pennies poured in, netting under ten dollars but delivering great fun.
Last evening Miss Norma Steadman entertained several young friends with an indoor target game that drew much amusement. Guests included Inez Holden Edith Smouse Cora Brindley Laura Moore Maude Morton Ica Bailey Belle Stewart Pearl Gardner Al Reynolds John Bowman Dell Stewart Will Nelson Harry Montgomery Clarence VanSickle and Mr and Mrs Will Maxwell.
Last evening Roy Tripp suffered a broken right arm two inches below the elbow after falling from a Stermyer horse while horseback riding with other children. Dr. Jenkins set the arm and though he had a sleepless night, he will be fine in a few days.
Mrs Margarette S Sharp of Ainsworth and mother of Mrs Prof J A Barnes has died at age 75. Born in Sydney Ohio she moved to the state about 12 years ago and was a member of the U P L congregation at Ainsworth. She will be missed by local residents.
