Funeral at 2 30 Wednesday at L A Jones with Rev Carl W Klein. burial Grace Hill cemetery. He was born Sept 9 in Utica N Y and moved to Harpers Ferry Iowa in 1887. He worked for the Milwaukee railway as a bridge carpenter, farmed near Wellston 1905 to 1917, then returned to railways and was custodian at Gladwin station for three years. He married Ella Caroline Miksel June 4 1904 and died Nov 19 1927. Surviving are three daughters Helen Alice and Eather, all at home. He was a Moravian church member and Modern Woodmen lodge member in Washington.
Nine young men from the Washington community applied for navy enlistment to recruiting officer A. M. Powell from Burlington who visited Washington. Three applicants passed the physical exam and will soon proceed to Burlington for the required intelligence test before enlistment. The actions followed a prior notice in a Journal last week.
