The U S Supreme Court ordered a full hearing on the 1921 packer consent decree dispute between the government and packing firms. The case, set for January, seeks to review the entire controversy after earlier appeals and jurisdiction questions.
The first district Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs holds its annual meeting at New London with hosts Ricardo and Women's clubs. Delegates receive rooms and breakfast. program includes speakers Mrs Galen Tilden and Mrs Frances Whitley, a dinner, plays, and addresses on education and national contests.
Carl Kunath, a Grinnell college student, traveled from Town City on Saturday evening after playing with an orchestra for a fraternity dance. He spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. J. R. Kunath.
The French note proposes postponing discriminatory tariff rates and restoring pre September levels where higher than new minimums on German goods while seeking U S assurances to lower some American tariffs and ease sanitary restrictions. After a fuel shift of about 50 gallons to the rear and refueling the crew expected a later try but deemed today’s start impractical as tides would not cooperate. The craft suffered no damage. Mr and Mrs A A Spies visited Wellman yesterday.
Members of Leon Beatty post American Legion invited to special meeting of Bob Tribb post in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday evening October 19. District commander Dr J W Laird will install officers in the courthouse rotunda. Adjutant J O Brown asked attendees to respond. Bob Tribby post honors a soldier from Company K 168th Infantry who enlisted here and was killed in action in France with Washington boys.
Supt P L Jordan of the municipal water and light plant arranged a public meeting tonight to discuss an improved street lighting system for Washington. A representative from a major electric company will speak on a potential new system with better illumination at lower cost. The talk may be illustrated by lantern slides or motion pictures. The eight o clock session will be in the city hall gymnasium with a broad invitation to the public, especially business men.
West Chester prep drives for a tough clash with Muscatine as Washington fields a full lineup including Korf Benson Zeck Baird Davidson Hamilton Gallagher Fisher Bain Kolosick Layton with substitutes Smith Atkinson Reinert Brown and H Tucker. Washington sent a strong crowd, with many travelers by car, and the visiting band drew praise in orange and black uniforms.
Three Stillmunkes family members died in an incendiary home fire at Richardsville. Mrs. Stillmunkes may have been drugged, with her stomach under chemist's analysis. If poisons are found, autopsies on Stillmunkes and daughter Norma 13 will follow. coroner to set inquest date.
The Washington city council meets at 7 30 this evening to receive petitions on licensing a pool hall. Support signs circulated at churches and among residents. opponents also gathering signatures. No pool halls in Washington for years after a previous public vote against them.

The Fall Sinclair oil conspiracy trial begins in Washington with jurors being drawn. Former Interior Secretary Fall and oil magnate Harry Sinclair face charges of defrauding the government in the Teapot Dome lease case.
At the Washington ministerial association annual meeting Dr F W Eastwood of the Presbyterian church was elected president and Rev A A Vinz of the Baptist church secretary. Hk N Schuster new musical director of the Methodist choir was admitted as a member. The annual union Thanksgiving service was planned for the Methodist church at 10 o clock on Thanksgiving Day with Dr Eastwood delivering the sermon.
Georg Michel a French baker is not recognized as the channel swim record holder by the French Swimming Association because his attempt was made in secret and disclosed today in London on October 17.
Rolland Wagner, 24, of Des Moines, was wounded by a shotgun discharge while hunting yesterday. He suffered a mangled left arm and may lose the limb. witnesses reported two shots heard on the city edge before Wagner was found.
