The British ship Blengfelt, en route from New York to London, was set ablaze off the coast early this morning. Nine crew members including the captain and pilot died. survivors were landed at Dover and here. The vessel carried naptha and exploded as a tug was being engaged.
Indiana governor Mount weighs in on Illinois Virden mine labor dispute. He says he is not fully advised on conditions there but cites an analogous case a year earlier where resident miners won concessions. He supports Governor Tanner’s refusal to land imported labor if operators refuse to concede.
Major William F. Tucker paymaster transferred to Chicago denies being struck in an Atlanta dispute with a landlord. He cited ladies present and said he did not pursue a quarrel. Separate items: Illinois court cases and a mortgage foreclosure suit against Continental Wire Company at Granite City, Illinois.

Beatrice Hoyt wins women’s golf title at Shinnecock Hills. Pat Wood is killed in a Georgia card game quarrel. Amund Johnson files for bankruptcy with assets 466 and liabilities 931928. Canova is killed by game warden Locker near Paterson. Keogh books show probable shortages of 31800.
The city held a national peace jubilee union thanksgiving at the Auditorium with the president and his wife present. Speakers included Booker T. Washington Emil G Hirsch and Rev John Henry Barrows along with others as multiple church services preceded and followed at Studebaker Hall First Methodist Episcopal and Forty first Street Presbyterian churches.
Dispatch from Walker Minnesota reports Indian leaders prepared to surrender by next Wednesday while Gen. Hacon predicts an inevitable clash. Pillsager Chippewas issue a public manifesto praising Commissioner Jones and denouncing past oppression, signed by twenty four chiefs from the Leech Lake district.
The twenty sixth annual National Prison association convention opened in Indianapolis with about 120 delegates from 22 states. Governor Mount and Mayor Taggart spoke, Frederick A. Wines delivered the response, Z R Brockway gave the annual address, and a Plymouth church reception followed. The annual sermon at First Presbyterian addressed Society's Attitude Toward the Downmost Man.
