MISSING MAN ARREST FIASCO AND HOTEL ALLEN ADVENTURE
The Journal reports a man posing as a Des Moines advertising executive swindling merchants during a stay at Hotel Allen. He was arrested in Newton on hotel bill and swindle charges, identified as Fritz Volland, who denied wrongdoing and promised to return. He vanished before follow up.

Bank's Doors Closed In Richland Amid Suspicious Deposits
Charleton and Stokers bank in Richland did not open yesterday. Cashier Charlton, who went east last Friday, left $300 outside a locked vault with the combination unavailable. A few days earlier $2,200 in school funds had been deposited. President Mr Stalker accepted deposits Saturday yet refused payment, leaving a suspicious situation.
