J D Byers 87 year old civil war veteran and Wellman G A R member died at 6 30 this morning at his home three miles southeast of South English. He served in the 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry and Army of the Potomac. Burial plans pending with services at Wellman Methodist Church likely Monday afternoon. He leaves eight children and twenty four grandchildren.

Mr. Anderson will head the meat distribution kept in the Frettenbach store room north of the Washington National Bank. Next Monday he will receive family lists and prepare to issue pork to entitled persons from eight in the morning to six in the evening. Supplies for each month total one and three fourths pounds per person and will be distributed within a week.
County Uses Stone Crusher to Grind Rock for Roads
The county operates a stone crusher bought last summer at the Grace Hill quarry. Crushed rock is loaded on trucks and hauled to the south end of the Washington river road for maintenance work. The board plans to use the material on trunk roads and later on Wayland Dublin and Bush corner routes. About twenty men work at the quarry preparing a large supply for ongoing crushing and hauling.
