County Hospital Washington earns standard status from surgeons

Announcement at the annual clinical congress of the American College of Surgeons states the county hospital at Washington Town is accredited among 263 hospitals in the U S and Canada. Superintendent Margaret Rose led the effort with the hospital board, emphasizing staff conferences and complete patient record systems as key requirements.

Wilbur Wilbur remains in Hoover cabinet post

Secretary of Interior Ray Lyman Wilbur will stay in President Hoover's cabinet indefinitely. Hoover stated Wilbur is too valuable to lose and will remain a university trustee to retain his Stanford presidency. The move ends speculation from a Stanford university publication about Wilbur's future if he stayed in Washington.

Large cast for Legion minstrel at Graham theatre

A large cast of twenty male voters will perform in the American Legion home talent minstrel show at the Graham theatre on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. TJ Shearer directs, with Ralph Livingston as interlocutor and a lineup including Leland Carr Floyd Arnold Floyd Beatty G Stewart Squire and Hop. Adrienne Waner and Harold Jones will showcase dances and comedy. The program starts with a straight minstrel segment then burnt cork routines and a final sketch No man s Land in Burnt Cork set in trenches. Milan Shields orchestra provides musical accompaniment.

Huchendorff Kills Wife and Daughter Then Suicide

In Hollywood California on October 14 Herman Huchendorff shot and killed his wife Alice and their fourteen year old daughter in her flat before turning the pistol on himself. Police found him dead. The family had lived in Washington for years and moved eight years ago. The wife’s parents remain in Muscatine.

Bidwell Funeral Set For Thursday

Funeral services for Wallae Wellington Bidwell, who died yesterday afternoon, are set for Thursday at two o'clock at the Sherman funeral home. Dr. F. W. Eastwood and Rev. Carl W. Klein will officiate prior to burial in Brighton cemetery. He is survived by brothers Seymour and Jasper E. Bidwell and several nephews and nieces. Known as Uncle Bob, he and his brother worked in sewer construction and repair.
