The Iowa Highway Commission released a 206 page report on seven proposed I 380 routes between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. Three alternates were rated most acceptable with discussions planned in November and a public hearing slated for late January, final decision not before next spring. The Independence, Raymond, and Palo routes differ in paths and lengths, with Palo offering a direct Cedar Rapids to Waterloo diagonal and no shared segments with 520.

Iowa Commerce Commissioner Dick Witt remained in satisfactory condition after being found semi conscious in his Des Moines bachelor apartment. He was in intensive care with acute vascular crises from hypertension and high blood pressure. Witt was taken to Lutheran Hospital after missing work. He was involved in a controversial behind the scenes rate regulation case with three power companies and a phone company. At a Sunday press conference Gov Robert D. Ray called Witt's actions unwise but not criminal.
