Maynard Griebbien, about 17 or 18, is expected to be charged with first degree murder for the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Griebbien, 45, near Knoxville. Rescue 8 From Burning Vessel
Lifeboats from a rescue ship saved eight injured persons from the fire ravaged Swedish freighter Kristina Thorden. The ship with 14 passengers had three dead and a number of seriously injured. The Stavangerfjord reported transferring the wounded and hoped to save others as doctors and a nurse boarded the vessel to treat them.
