Missed Connection Point Made That Favors Schley

Washington October 11. Judge Advocate Lemly told the Schley court the Scorpion log did not prove receipt of a delivery message from the Eagle about Spanish fleet at Cienfuegos. Lieutenant Holden testified the message was received but Lemly said the transmission failed to reach Commodore Schley aboard the Brooklyn.

St. Joseph Missouri October 11 Superintendent Bert Hamilton of the Hammond Packing company beef department was fatally injured when he fell in front of an electric railway trailer. Both legs were severed as he stood on the motor car platform during the collision.

Mexican farmer convicted on two Sunday work charges

Mexico Missouri October 11 Godfrey Winzer a farmer was found guilty on two counts for working on Sunday. Neighbors testified before the grand jury and Winzer faced five indictments for scalding hogs whitewashing trees stacking oats and straw and rendering lard. He was convicted on the first two counts and fined ten dollars in each case.

Fire claims three children in Santiago home blaze

The Santiago dwelling of G. Peters twelve miles north of Omer burned Tuesday night. Three Peters children perished in the flames and Peters was badly burned while trying to save them. Mrs. Peters also suffered serious burns.

Rock Island Train Held Up Near Avoca

Rock Island train No. 3 from Chicago was held up near Avoca Iowa. The engineer reportedly exchanged shots with the bandits but no further details have been received.
