Chicago Oct 10 A loaded muzzle loading shotgun accidentsly discharged by Pred Kuhr in his home injures Miss Beren Harris 18 instantly as she sat by a dining room window. The blast mangles her face while Martha Zuber witnessed from the yard. Kuhr held the weapon and was confined by Evanston police. Miss Harris's residence was Arkdale Wisconsin.
Springfield Oct 10 Colonel N B Wiggins proprietor of the Leland hotel since 1867 is seriously ill with paralysis affecting his left side. He remains conscious and is known across Illinois for strong state connections. His partner Horace Leland died ten years ago leaving him sole management.
Reports from Manila describe an hour long engagement near La Loma church with insurgents in Cavite province. One American wounded. insurgents retreated after artillery and rifle fire. Casualties include Captain Safford and Captain McGrath among others.
