In Ames yesterday tear gas accidentally discharged in a bank chase forced employees to exit in tears. The explosions were said to be from bombs meant for burglars, not an attack, with no injuries reported. Mt Pleasant man William Kitch was killed by a train yesterday while on his way home from work. He led the Henry County Mutual Insurance association and was 41 years old. The cause of the collision was not clear and was linked to heat.
Surprise raids in Ft. Dodge resulted in fifty arrests and $1146 in fines and forfeited bonds. The Monday police court docket was the heaviest in the city’s history, with four men each paying $56 for unsealed liquor.

Deputy H G Richardson reported two of five auto wheels and tires stolen from Wellman streets over a week ago were found in a country school yard about two miles from Wellman. The other tires remain missing. The wheels were detached from a parked vehicle.
DES MOINES Oct 9 The Democratic state central committee backed Agnes Samuelson for state superintendent of public instruction and left the position unfilled on the November ballot. Patrick Kehoe of Parley had withdrawn as the Democratic candidate, clearing Samuelson for another term.
