200 Women of Auxiliary Here Today
The first district Legion Auxiliary convention drew over 200 women from nearly all of the district's 45 units. State president Mrs. George Prichard of Onawa spoke. sessions were at Yo M COA community room with a Methodist church luncheon. Young People Hear Dick McCleery at Union Service
Richard McCleery will speak at the union young people's service Sunday evening Oct 11 at the Baptist church. The meeting starts a series planned by the young people's interchurch council, which has prepared a questionnaire for church youth groups and will burn it tonight. The fifth district Christian Endeavor convention is set for this fall with plans discussed at the service. Harold B. Nicola of Wellman was sentenced last week to up to five years in the Anamosa reform school. The court overruled his motion for a new trial after Nicola was convicted of stealing a calf from Marion Yoder, a farmer in the northern part of the county. Nicola was one of six Wellman men sentenced to terms at Anamosa for thefts in the area. the judge urged Nicola’s guilt and accused him of perjury on the stand while finding no coercion or threats in obtaining his confession.

In Des Moines on October 9, National Guard troops will move into Henry County to protect veterinarians administering the tuberculosis test. About ten troops will disband a Tipton camp and proceed to Mt. Pleasant, a state armory was opposed to the test. Governor Turn planned the order. Four trucks moved equipment to Mt. Pleasant.
