Local sheriff's deputies arrested two men after a CB radio tip led them to the airport road east of Washington at 1:30 a.m. Delbert Eugene Henderson of route 2 North English faced a false uttering of a check charge and was released on $500 bond. Dennis R. Detweiler of Keota was jailed overnight for public intoxication.

Sentenced on larceny count in Washington County Court
Edward L. Kleinberg, 21, of Washington, received a one year jail term with eight months suspended on a larceny conviction for stealing goods from a Brighton store last summer. He must pay restitution and county attorney fees and will be on probation for a year. Accomplice Thomas L. Morrison, 28, pleaded innocent after withdrawing a guilty plea. Other notes include Steven L. Barnes receiving 30 days suspended jail and one year probation for marijuana possession with $25 monthly attorney costs, Norman L. Hampton fined $300 and license suspended for DWI, and Bert W. Wells fined $300 for DWI. Jack D. Barnes had a drunk driving charge dismissed. he is serving a 10 year sentence in Anamosa. Jerry Groom charged with marijuana possession while inmate.

A liquid chlorine spill at Dow Chemical Co complex caused a five by three mile gas cloud prompting evacuation of more than 4,000 homes and four schools. Police and volunteers evacuated thousands as 30 gallons leaked from a pipeline valve. Several workers and a plumber were hospitalized with chlorine inhalation, with conditions improving for some by evening.

Audit raises questions on Iowa liquor group actions
A state audit of the Iowa Beer and Liquor Control Department completed June 30 and released in Des Moines shows director Rolland Gallagher took 30 bottles of wine from a state store on September 30, 1976. The Wine Advisory Board and officials were involved in a booze party. board members paid for meals, wine supplied by the state, some bottles used for tasting and a dinner. Polk County Attorney Dan Johnston said more information is needed before any prosecution.

Senate votes to boost federal minimum wage to 3.15 by 1980
The Senate passed a four year plan raising the federal minimum wage by 48 percent for 4.7 million workers, to 3.15 in 1980, while the House favors 3.05. A conference committee must resolve differences including small business exemptions and teen wage rules. The plan also eases tip workers and allows more student part time hires.

Utah search finds seven Houston residents dead in Wasatch crash
A UPI report says a Lehi search party located seven Houston residents killed when their light plane went down in the rugged West Canyon of the Wasatch Mountains. Juveniles Arrested in Iowa Shooting Death
Police said two juveniles were arrested and a third may be apprehended in the fatal shooting of 34 year old Douglas M. Furth at his suburban Des Moines home on September 1. Paulino Aldape 15 and his brother Richard J. 14 were charged with delinquency by reason of homicide.
